How Much Does Commercial Waste Collection Cost in Brisbane? (2026 Guide)

A Brisbane business with one 1,100-litre general waste bin collected weekly should expect to pay roughly $110 to $205 a month plus GST once the rate is negotiated, a 240-litre bin about $40 to $65, and a 3 m³ front-lift bin $220 to $370. Waster's published Brisbane example for a 1.5 m³ front-lift bin is $27 to $60 per collection. Brisbane City Council does not collect commercial general waste, so every shop, café, office and warehouse contracts its own provider. The Queensland levy of $135 a tonne puts about $51 a month into a weekly 1,100-litre bin.

What Brisbane businesses pay in 2026

Brisbane is one of the cheaper capitals for commercial waste, for one structural reason: the Queensland levy is $45 a tonne lower than the Victorian and NSW metropolitan rates. Everything else, route density, weight, contract terms, works the same way. The Queensland levy inside every lift

Queensland charges a waste disposal levy on waste landfilled in its levy zone, which covers Brisbane and the south-east. For 2026-27 the metropolitan zone rate for general waste is $135 a tonne, up from $125, and the Queensland Government has set it to keep rising by $10 a tonne each year until it reaches $145 on 1 July 2027. The regional zone rate is $100 a tonne. Regulated wastes pay more: category 1 is $215 a tonne and category 2 is $165 in the metropolitan zone.

Expect your provider to pass the July 2027 step through as a price rise letter. It is worth $4 a month on a 1,100-litre bin; anything larger than that in the letter is margin, not levy.

What Brisbane City Council collects

Council kerbside collection in Brisbane is for households. Bin Hire Australia's Brisbane guide puts it plainly: the council collects household bins, not commercial ones, and putting business waste in a residential kerbside bin is a fineable offence. The council does run a user-pays business recycling service: wheelie bins from 240 to 340 litres at $8 to $11 per service, bulk bins from 660 litres to 4.5 m³ at $24.50 per cubic metre per service, no start-up fee, a minimum 12-month commitment and quarterly invoices. That service is a useful benchmark for what a recycling lift should cost in Brisbane, and a reason never to accept a recycling rate that is higher than your general waste rate.

Recycling is where the levy disappears

Cardboard, commingled recycling and organics avoid landfill, so they avoid the levy. Waster's Brisbane page quotes cardboard collection in 1.5 to 4.5 m³ bins at under $15.33 plus GST per cubic metre, a fraction of a general waste lift. Queensland's Containers for Change scheme refunds 10 cents per eligible container, which hospitality venues can claim through a collection partner. Every kilogram moved out of the red bin removes $0.135 of levy plus the disposal margin on top, before the lower collection rate for the recycling stream.

What moves a Brisbane rate

• Route density. Inner Brisbane, TradeCoast, Acacia Ridge and the industrial south are dense routes; acreage and the outer north-west pay more per lift.
• Weight. Excess weight is charged per kilogram once you pass the allowance ($0.42 per kg on Waster's published terms outside NSW).
• Frequency. One weekly 1,100-litre lift is usually cheaper than three 240-litre lifts a week.
• Add-on lines. Rental, environmental, fuel and admin fees are the fastest-growing part of a Brisbane invoice and the easiest to negotiate away.
• Term. Rollover clauses and annual rise formulas cost more over three years than a few dollars on the headline lift rate.
