Compare Australian commercial waste quotes using the same materials, location, equipment and collection schedule. A national price range is not useful unless its sample and service terms are documented.
Build a service specification before comparing prices
List each waste stream separately. For every site, record the address, container size, number of containers, collection days, access window and any measured weight. Include seasonal peaks and any material the provider must assess separately.
For a multi-state business, create a site-by-site schedule before calculating a group total. A lower price at one site does not establish the price at another location. Ask providers to identify subcontracted services and which company handles service problems.
Put every quote on the same basis
Separate per-lift charges from fixed monthly services. For per-lift pricing, multiply the quoted rate by chargeable collections in the comparison period. Do not add lift fees again where they are already included in a fixed package.
Add rental, delivery, exchange, removal, disposal, excess weight and any other applicable fees. Confirm GST treatment. Ask for the circumstances and calculation method for contamination, failed access and after-hours charges.
Treat the levy as one component
EPA Victoria publishes a $177.19-per-tonne levy for municipal and industrial waste at prescribed metro landfill premises for 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027. This is not a bin-collection rate. See the EPA rate table for other categories.
Use the relevant state authority for other locations. Ask the supplier whether its disposal price already includes the applicable levy. A charge labelled environmental fee is not necessarily the statutory levy itself.
Check the service behind a lower total
Confirm equipment suitability, accepted materials, collection reliability arrangements and reporting. If a lower quote changes frequency or weight allowance, show that difference clearly. Include transition costs and any remaining contractual commitments before calling the difference a saving.
What a credible benchmark would require
A published benchmark should disclose its collection period, geographical scope, sample size, waste specification, GST basis and exclusions. It should distinguish actual quotes from advertised examples and explain how outliers were handled. No verified national benchmark dataset is supplied here.
Use your own current invoices and written competing offers as the decision record. Keep the accepted specification with the agreement and review the first invoice against it.
