A product-destruction quote should state what will be collected, how access to the goods is controlled, what destruction means for that product and what proof you will receive. There is no verified Melbourne market-rate table in this guide; request a written quote for the actual inventory.
Start with the reason for destruction
Separate a routine stock clearance from a safety recall, confidential prototype, branded uniform or insurance instruction. The evidence and authorisation needed may differ. Do not choose a cheaper method before the responsible owner approves the required outcome.
ACCC Product Safety explains that recall action addresses a product safety risk and can take different forms, including returns, repair or disposal. Booking destruction does not complete a recall or remove the supplier's other responsibilities. ACCC Product Safety: Be prepared to recall.
Prepare an inventory
- Product, batch or serial identifiers and the authorised quantity.
- Packaging, approximate weight and pallet count, distinguishing measured from estimated figures.
- Any batteries, liquids, chemicals, pressurised components or other hazards.
- Ownership and release approval, including any brand, insurer or recall instructions.
- Location, loading facilities and the required collection window.

What does a certificate prove?
Read the certificate's actual scope. Ask that it connects the received inventory to the completed process. A generic certificate is not automatic acceptance by your insurer or regulator, and destruction is not proof of recycling or a zero-landfill outcome.
Compare alternatives safely
Where there is no recall or security restriction, ask the owner whether reuse or donation is appropriate before destruction. Never redirect recalled goods into resale or donation without the recall owner's approved instructions.
