An Adelaide business with one 1,100-litre general waste bin collected weekly should expect to pay roughly $118 to $218 a month plus GST once the rate is negotiated, a 240-litre bin about $42 to $68, and a 3 m³ front-lift bin $245 to $400. Waster publishes an Adelaide example of $83.89 plus GST a week for a 3 m³ bin lifted weekly, about $363 a month. The South Australian solid waste levy was $156 a tonne for metropolitan Adelaide in the last year published in the state's open dataset and has risen since. Larger businesses contract their own provider; the City of Adelaide's kerbside service covers small businesses only.
What Adelaide businesses pay in 2026
Adelaide is the one capital where a provider publishes actual local price points. Waster's Adelaide page lists a 3 m³ general waste bin lifted weekly at $83.89 plus GST a week, falling to $71.28 if the same bin is lifted fortnightly, a 660-litre commingled recycling bin at $11.70 plus GST per collection, twice-weekly 120-litre organics at $20 plus GST a week, and a 3 m³ cardboard bin collected monthly at $32.40 plus GST. Those points, the national list ranges and Bundle Waste's indicative negotiated range for Adelaide are set out together below. The negotiated range is our Melbourne market range adjusted for the levy difference at a typical 80 kg per cubic metre.

Monthly figures assume 4.33 collections a month. The Waster weekly 3 m³ point converts to about $363 a month, near the top of our negotiated band, which is what an advertised online rate usually looks like before anyone negotiates it.
The South Australian levy inside every lift
South Australia's solid waste levy is set by the EPA and split between metropolitan Adelaide and the rest of the state. The SA Government's open dataset records the metropolitan rate at $143 a tonne in 2020-21, $146 in 2021-22, $149 in 2022-23 and $156 in 2023-24, with the country rate at exactly half. The dataset stops at 2023-24; a 2025 fees regulation lifted the rate again, but we could not read the current figure from an official page, so the table below uses the last published rate and should be treated as a floor. Check epa.sa.gov.au for the 2026-27 figure before you use it in a negotiation.

Weights follow Waster's published allowances: 60 kg per cubic metre for offices and non-food retail, 80 kg for health, education and non-food manufacturing, 100 kg for hospitality and 120 kg for food manufacturing and construction. Waster's own Adelaide page still quotes the levy at its July 2021 figure of $143, a reminder to check the date on any levy number a provider puts in front of you.
What the City of Adelaide collects
The City of Adelaide runs a kerbside recycling and waste collection for small businesses in the city and North Adelaide, with a published 2026 small business collection calendar. It is designed for small volumes of bagged waste and flattened cardboard; anything beyond that, and any business outside the council area, contracts a private provider. The same is true across the metropolitan councils, so for most Adelaide businesses the council is not a pricing option and the market is the private providers that run the inner-city, Port Adelaide, Regency Park, Wingfield and southern routes.
Recycling and organics in Adelaide
The published Adelaide points show the shape of the saving: a 660-litre commingled lift at $11.70 costs a fraction of a general waste lift, and cardboard collected monthly at $32.40 removes bulky material from the red bin for less than a single weekly general waste collection. South Australia's container deposit scheme returns 10 cents per eligible container, which hospitality venues can claim through a collection partner. Every kilogram moved out of general waste removes the levy and the disposal margin on top.
What moves an Adelaide rate
- Frequency. Waster's own Adelaide example shows a fortnightly 3 m³ lift at $71.28 against $83.89 weekly; matching frequency to volume is the first saving.
- Weight. Excess weight is charged per kilogram once you pass the allowance ($0.42 per kg on Waster's published terms outside NSW).
- Route density. The CBD, Kent Town, Mile End and Mawson Lakes are dense routes; the hills and the outer south pay more per lift.
- Add-on lines. Rental, environmental and fuel surcharges are the fastest-growing part of an Adelaide invoice and the easiest to negotiate away.
- Term. Rollover clauses and annual rise formulas matter more over three years than the headline lift rate.
