What applies

EPA includes computers, phones, appliances, batteries and photovoltaic panels in its e-waste guidance. Most business e-waste is priority waste; some batteries have different classifications and controls. Do not assume every item follows the same process. Source: EPA Victoria — Electronic waste.

Practical checks for your business

These suggested planning steps help organise site information; they are not an exhaustive legal compliance checklist.

  1. List equipment and identify batteries, damage and data-bearing devices before requesting collection.
  2. Ask the receiver about acceptance and presentation, including specific instructions for damaged batteries.
  3. Confirm data handling separately from material recycling and retain collection and receiving records.
