Review waste spending through actual invoices, bin use and comparable quotes; measure results instead of assuming a saving.
Establish a comparable baseline
Collect invoices, the signed service schedule and equipment records for a representative period. Separate ordinary trading from closures, unusual projects and seasonal peaks. Record total cost alongside the services actually purchased.
Observe bin use safely
Note fill levels before collection, the materials occupying space and any missed or extra services. Ask for measured weights where available. Use these observations to discuss changes rather than assuming a half-full bin always means it can be collected less often.
Test a different stream arrangement
Ask providers what they accept and price the proposed configuration. Compare any reduced general-waste service with the full added recycling or organics cost. Allow for staff time, storage and contamination controls. Do not assume recycling is always cheaper at your site.
Obtain like-for-like written quotes
Give each bidder the same materials, access, equipment and schedule. Compare collection, rental, disposal, extra charges, GST and transition costs. If the scope changes, label the change beside the arithmetic difference.
Negotiate the agreement, not only the opening rate
Ask how prices can change and how service adjustments, renewal and cancellation work. Use the ACCC contract guidance for context where terms are unclear. Record changes in the final agreement.
Measure the result
After implementation, compare actual invoices and service records over equivalent periods. Explain changes in volume or trading before claiming a saving. Keep a reduced-price calculation separate from an observed customer result, and avoid forecasting a guaranteed percentage or completion time.
