A collection point for household packaging is not proof that a business's film or mixed packaging is accepted. For commercial soft plastics, first identify the material and quantity, then obtain written acceptance and destination information from the proposed collector.
What the REDcycle incident tells businesses
EPA Victoria published an investigation timeline concerning stored REDcycle soft plastics. Treat that page as a record of the incident, not a directory of services available today. It does not establish that every subsequent collection scheme is unsuitable or that a named program accepts commercial quantities. EPA Victoria: Soft plastics storage
Separate the material streams

Ask for evidence beyond pickup
- Which facility will receive the material, and is that route available for this postcode and quantity?
- What packaging, separation and storage conditions apply?
- Which stage does each record prove: collection, sorting, reprocessing or sale of an output?
- How are rejected materials and processing residues handled?
- What happens if the destination stops accepting loads?
Plan storage and costs before starting
Agree safe storage limits and a collection trigger with the operator and the person responsible for site safety. Do not create a growing stockpile while waiting for a market. Compare transport, equipment, handling, rejected-load charges and any confirmed rebate; do not build the budget around an unquoted commodity price.
For stores and warehouses, also ask suppliers about reducing or returning packaging under a written arrangement. Track purchased packaging and collected material separately so a collection total is not presented as proven recycling. See waste reporting evidence.
