Sydney Tip Fees 2026-27: Kimbriki, Bingo and Council Gate Rates

Sydney has the most expensive tip fees in Australia. Kimbriki Resource Recovery Centre at Terrey Hills charges $505 per tonne for mixed waste from 1 July 2026, with a $45 minimum for Northern Beaches and Mosman residents and $60 for everyone else and trades; vegetation is free for residents up to 300 kg and $295 per tonne otherwise. BINGO's eight Sydney recycling centres charge $440–510 per tonne for mixed waste excluding GST with a $100 minimum. The reason is the NSW landfill levy: $180.20 per tonne in the metropolitan levy area from 1 July 2026, the highest in the country.

Kimbriki is cashless (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) and open 8:00am–4:30pm. It is the main public gate for the Northern Beaches and lower north shore, which is why “kimbriki tip fees” is what most of Sydney searches for.

Across the network the minimum charge is $100 and a reload fee of $300 applies. Clean heavies (brick, concrete, asphalt, sand, soil) are far cheaper by the tonne, from $80, which is the point of sorting a builder's load before it reaches the weighbridge. Polystyrene and coolroom panels are $3,500 per tonne (minimum 500 kg). BINGO's centres are commercial gates: weighbridge pricing, no residency discount, trucks welcome.

Council recycling centres

Many Sydney councils run recycling centres that take household recyclables, e-waste, paint and metal free but do not take general waste at all: Randwick's centre at Matraville is the best-known example. For general waste most Sydney residents and businesses use Kimbriki, a BINGO or Veolia/Cleanaway commercial gate, or their council's clean-up service. Check your council's 2026-27 fees and charges schedule for the exact position.

How a Sydney tip fee is built

The NSW waste levy is $180.20 per tonne in the metropolitan levy area and $103.80 in the regional levy area from 1 July 2026 (EPA NSW), up $6.00 and $3.50 respectively. GST is added to the whole gate fee. What remains is the operator's handling, transport and margin. On Kimbriki's $505 per tonne the levy is roughly 36% of the price; on BINGO's $440–510 ex GST it is 35–41%.

For a business in Sydney: tip runs versus a scheduled bin

Gate fees are for occasional loads. Once someone is driving to the tip every week, a scheduled bin is almost always cheaper: the collector's per-lift price already contains the state levy, and it removes the vehicle, the fuel and the hour of someone's time each trip. Ways to pay less at the gate

• Sort before you go. Cardboard, scrap metal, e-waste and batteries are free at most facilities; hidden recyclables inside a mixed load are charged at the general rate.
• Know the minimum charge. Small loads are billed at the minimum regardless of weight; combine half-loads.
• Use the weighbridge for dense waste. Soil, concrete and timber are usually cheaper by the tonne than by trailer size, and clean concrete or brick has its own low rate at most gates.
• Green waste separately. Typically 40–60% cheaper than general waste at the same facility.
• Resident vouchers where your council issues them; they never apply to commercial loads.
