Use the current container eligibility guide

The May 2026 Recycling Victoria guide distinguishes beverage type, material and size. In particular, glass wine and pure-spirit bottles are excluded, including small formats. Do not assume every bottle between 150mL and 3L qualifies. Check the actual product using the scheme’s eligibility information.

Count the eligible containers you capture

Record containers actually separated over a representative period. Keep potential containers sold or consumed separate from containers returned. Confirm how refunds are paid and any collection or handling deduction before treating the gross refund as business income.

Compare self-return and collection

For self-return, account for staff time, transport, storage and return-point acceptance. For an arranged pickup, ask about minimum quantity, bin provision, sorting, frequency, rejected items and who receives the refund. Neither option is automatically better at a fixed weekly container count.

Fit the system into the venue

Place labelled collection points where eligible containers arise and brief cleaning and bar staff. Keep non-eligible glass on the appropriate collection route. Ask the return operator for preparation and broken-container instructions rather than assuming all return points work identically.

Reconcile the result

Keep collection counts, refund statements and any fees together. Compare changes in other waste services using actual invoices, not the nominal refund alone. A reduction in bin contents only changes cost if the charging arrangement changes accordingly.

Document public claims

If you report refunds, donations or recycling results, use the actual dated statements and approved beneficiary details. Do not present an illustrative calculation or another venue’s outcome as Bundle Waste customer evidence. Keep any claim about a named business separately authorised.
