Pallet Collection in Brisbane: Free Pickup Thresholds, Exclusions and What Dumping Costs

In Brisbane, sound timber pallets are collected free once you have 30 to 50 of them and a forklift to load, and one recycler may pay depending on condition. The exclusions are strict: no CHEP or Loscam, no chipboard or plywood, no residential pickups. Anything refused is priced against Queensland's metropolitan waste levy, which is $135 a tonne in 2026-27 and rises $10 every July.

What dumping pallets costs in Queensland

Queensland's waste disposal levy runs on a published escalator. In the metropolitan zone the general waste rate is $125 a tonne in 2025-26, $135 a tonne in 2026-27 and $145 a tonne in 2027-28, increasing by $10 a tonne each year. The regional zone is $97, then $100, then $103 a tonne, indexed at 3.4 per cent. At roughly 30 kilograms a pallet, a tonne is about 33 broken pallets, so the levy alone is a little over $4 a pallet in metropolitan Brisbane before the facility's gate fee.
