What is a landfill levy?
A per-tonne charge set by each state or territory on waste sent to landfill, paid by the landfill operator and passed through in collection prices. Rates and levy areas differ by state and change each July.
How much of my bin price is levy?
It depends on the bin size, how full it is and the density of the waste. The levy calculator turns your bin setup into tonnes per year and dollars of levy for each state, with the density assumption stated.
Do I need a waste transport certificate?
For regulated, prescribed, reportable or trackable wastes, yes, and the generator has obligations as well as the transporter. The certificate guides for Queensland, NSW and Victoria explain who issues them and what to keep.
How do I check my contractor is licensed?
Each state runs a public register. The licence check guide links every register and lists what to look for before you sign.
Why does waste classification matter to my bill?
